My name is Emileigh, and I'm the person behind the blog.
Why the name "Flashback Summer"?
I originally had the idea for a blog last summer. I planned on dressing in vintage style several times a week and blogging about it... only to find out I did not have that much vintage clothing yet! I regrouped and reevaluated what a "me" blog would be and decided to try again. I still like the name "Flashback Summer" (it evokes vintage, warm, sunny, carefree, fun days!), so I decided to keep it.
What kind of things do you like?
I'm strangely varied in my interests.... I love vintage dresses, skinny jeans, drinking tea on rainy days in front of a fire, adventure, sewing, and languages. And I also have a currently unrealized dream of riding a motorcycle and being a bum in Europe. Sigh. Someday.
What do you love about vintage clothing and "old stuff"?
On a practical level, I'm a small person. Vintage clothing tends to be smaller and fit me better in some ways. (This is also the reason I learned to sew, so I could get things to fit me!) But on a more ideological level.... old stuff has a story to it; it has history. I become a part of that history when I use/wear these things. I embrace the classiness, the thriftiness, and the character that comes from the old days!
What are some things that are hugely important to your life?
At the top of the list is my relationship with God. It affects everything about my life, and God has ALWAYS been there for me. I am also dating the most wonderful guy in the world, and I love spending time with him. I have a goal of joining the US Air Force soon, too.
What's your life in a nutshell?
I grew up in Missouri until my family moved to Africa when I was a teenager. Since then I've come back to college in Missouri where I'm 21 years old and finishing my junior year. All of these influences from Missouri, Egypt, and Sudan mesh together to form the eccentric (aka amusingly strange) person I am today!
